Today, I spoke with the talented author Glen W. Ruane from Long Lake, New York about his novel They Came With Faith Hope and Courage. What a beautiful novel. For those who love traditional stories set in the early times, this story is for you. The world building allowed the reader to truly visualize what the settlers went through when they entered the majestic Adirondack Mountains of New York. I travel to the area frequently and I loved imagining the story as it unfolded. When I asked Glen what inspired him to write this novel, he said that his love of old history and the Adirondacks motivated him to visualize what it must have been like for the settlers to face so many challenges. Congratualtions Glen for your beautiful achievement! :)
This is a story about two men who joined forces and started a settlement deep into the northeast wilderness. Together these men led families of white settlers to a beautiful place called the Lake in the Wilderness.
Perhaps these settlers wouldn t have survived their first winter without the help of Strong Like Bear and Joe Chandler. With the guidance and wisdom of these two men, their dreams would become a reality.
As the reader joins them on their journey, the tale and its characters start to seem real.
Glen Ruane grew up in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. As a boy, he liked exploring and climbing in the mountains. After retiring, Glen and his wife, Karen, moved to the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York. His love for nature and the mountains soon had him hiking again. After climbing the trails to thirteen fire towers, he climbed twenty-three of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks.
Glen is also interested in Native American and early American history.
During one of the typically long Adirondack winters, Glen enjoyed writing his first novel, which combines several of his pursuits.
